The Life of an Order: From Checkout to Customer

The Life of an Order: From Checkout to Customer

Have you ever wondered what happens after a customer places an order?

While it may seem like an order goes directly from checkout to shipping, there are several important steps that happen behind the scenes before a package reaches your customer's doorstep.

Here's a look at the journey your order takes.

Step 1: The Customer Places an Order

The process begins when a customer completes a purchase through your store.

Once payment is successfully processed, the order is automatically transmitted to Teelaunch and enters our fulfillment system.

At this stage, merchants may still have a limited opportunity to make changes or request a cancellation before production begins.

Step 2: Order Review

Before production starts, our system reviews the order details to ensure everything is ready for fulfillment.

This includes:

  • Product selection

  • Artwork files

  • Shipping information

  • Order routing

If any issues are detected, the order may be temporarily delayed while the issue is resolved.

Step 3: Production Queue

Once approved, the order enters the production queue.

Orders are processed in the order they are received, although production times may vary depending on:

  • Product type

  • Facility workload

  • Seasonal demand

  • Inventory availability

During busy seasons, orders may spend additional time in the queue before production begins.

Step 4: Production Begins

This is where your product is created.

Depending on the item ordered, this may involve:

  • Printing

  • Embroidery

  • Laser engraving

  • Sublimation

  • Assembly

At this stage, the order can no longer be modified or canceled.

Step 5: Quality Control

After production is completed, the item is reviewed to ensure it meets our quality standards.

Our team checks for:

  • Print placement

  • Product defects

  • Production errors

  • Packaging readiness

While every effort is made to catch issues before shipment, occasional defects may still occur.

Step 6: Packaging

Once approved, the item is packaged for shipment.

Some products are shipped from different facilities, which means customers may receive multiple packages for a single order.

This is completely normal and does not necessarily indicate that part of the order is missing.

Step 7: Carrier Pickup

After packaging, the package is handed to the shipping carrier.

Tracking information is generated and provided to the merchant.

Please note that tracking updates may not appear immediately after a label is created. It can take several days for the first scan to appear in the carrier's system.

Step 8: In Transit

The package now travels through the carrier's network toward its destination.

Transit times depend on:

  • Shipping method selected

  • Destination country

  • Carrier performance

  • Weather conditions

  • Customs processing (for international orders)

Step 9: Delivered

Once delivered, the order journey is complete.

If a customer reports an issue after delivery, such as damage, misprints, or missing items, please contact our support team and provide photos whenever possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Production times can vary based on product demand, seasonal volume, and facility capacity. Current production estimates can always be found on our status page.

Tracking numbers are often generated before the carrier receives the package. It may take a few business days before tracking activity appears.

Why did my customer receive multiple packages?

Some products are fulfilled by different facilities and may ship separately.

Can I make changes after placing an order?

Changes are only possible before production begins. Once an order enters production, modifications and cancellations are no longer available.
