Sublimated Mugs

Sublimated Mugs

What is sublimation printing?

Sublimation is a printing process that uses heat and pressure to permanently transfer your design into the coating of the mug. Unlike vinyl or decals, the artwork becomes part of the mug's surface, creating a vibrant and long-lasting print.

What types of mugs are sublimated?

The majority of our ceramic mugs, color-accent mugs, and specialty drinkware products are printed using the sublimation process.

Will the design peel, crack, or fade?

Because sublimation infuses the design into the mug's coating rather than sitting on top of it, the print will not peel or crack under normal use. With proper care, the design will remain vibrant for years.

Can white ink be printed?

No. Sublimation printers do not use white ink. Any white areas in your design will show as the mug's base color.

Can sublimation print metallic or neon colors?

No. Metallic, fluorescent, glow, and neon effects cannot be reproduced through sublimation printing and will print as their closest standard color equivalent.

Why do my printed colors look different than my screen?

Screens display colors in RGB, while sublimation printing uses CMYK-based inks. Because of this, some color variation is normal, especially with bright or highly saturated colors.

Are sublimated mugs dishwasher safe?

Most sublimated mugs are dishwasher safe; however, hand washing is recommended to maximize the life and vibrancy of the print.

What file types work best for mug printing?

For the best results, we recommend:

  • PNG or JPG files
  • High-resolution artwork (300 DPI recommended)
  • RGB color mode
  • Artwork sized to the provided template dimensions

Can photographs be printed on mugs?

Yes! Sublimation is one of the best printing methods for photographs because it can reproduce fine details, gradients, and full-color images with excellent clarity.

Will the print look glossy?

Yes. The final print takes on the finish of the mug's coating, resulting in a smooth, professional appearance with vibrant colors.

What are common sublimation limitations?

  • White ink cannot be printed.
  • Metallic and neon colors cannot be reproduced.
  • Exact color matching cannot be guaranteed.
  • Slight color variations may occur between different production runs.
  • Small details and text should be designed at an appropriate size for readability.

If your design contains multiple colors or photographic elements, sublimation is often the best printing method for achieving vibrant, high-quality results.
