Shipping Rules FAQ

Why a product can look correctly set to free shipping and still charge at checkout

Root cause

Teelaunch's Order Settings control this automatically. In app.teelaunch.com → Settings → Order Settings, the option "Shipping Rules (Automatically assign shipping rules)" — when set to All, Only on Etsy orders, or Only on Shopify orders — makes the shipping rate on that platform automatically match Teelaunch's own default product shipping rate. This overrides whatever free-shipping setup exists on the store side.

The fix

Set up a custom shipping profile on each platform with an explicit $0.00 rate, and assign the product(s) to it directly.

Shopify:

  1. Go to Settings → Shipping and delivery and click Add custom profile.

  2. Name it something you'll recognize later, e.g. Free Shipping.

  3. Under Products, click the arrow and select the products to move in. A product can only belong to one profile, so adding it here automatically pulls it out of wherever it was before (including an app's profile).

  4. Under Shipping zones, click Add zone, pick the countries you want covered (e.g. United States).

  5. Click Add shipping option for that zone, name it "Free Shipping," and set the rate to Free.

  6. Save. Test by opening the product's page in an incognito window, adding it to cart, and checking out with an address in that zone.

Verify: run a test checkout on each platform with a real address and confirm shipping shows $0.

Support notes

  • A product's rate is always decided by whichever shipping profile owns it — the product page itself has no free-shipping toggle.

  • Don't edit rates directly under a Teelaunch-managed profile — it gets overwritten on every product sync from the app. Always move the product into a separate, store-owned profile instead.

  • A custom profile with an explicit $0.00 rate overrides the Teelaunch default regardless of how "Automatically assign shipping rules" is configured.

Shopify Step-by-Step Example

1. Inspecting the Initial Default Shipping Rate

Open your online store by clicking the Eye icon next to Online Store in your Shopify Admin. Select a product and click Buy it now. Enter your contact details and shipping address to view the current rate assigned by Teelaunch.

2. Standard Checkout Rate Before Configuration

Notice that the checkout initially applies the standard shipping rate synced from the Teelaunch app profile.

3. Locating the Default Teelaunch Shipping Profile

Go to Settings → Shipping and delivery and expand Shipping profiles. Here you will see the initial app-managed profile created by Teelaunch (e.g., sami-teelaunch-app), which automatically assigns the default product rates.

4. Assigning Products to the Custom Free Shipping Profile

Go to Settings → Shipping and delivery, locate Custom shipping rates, and click Create new profile.

Inside the new profile, click Add products, select the specific item(s) you want to offer with free shipping, and click Done. Then, set up a shipping zone with a $0.00 Free Shipping rate and click Save.

5. Verifying the Updated Checkout

Return to the storefront checkout page and refresh. The shipping method will now reflect Standard - FREE ($0.00).
